I have been lacking with updates lately. I never got around to posting photos from christmas or new years eve.
We spent christmas on long island with matthews family and it was lovely. then we came back to mass and spent nye with some of my family and friends. such a good night. matt left yesterday for the weekend and I am going to join him back on long island on sunday. I will be taking the train in and staying for the week. It's been so amazing having over a month with him, it just makes me miss him even more when he has to go. I don't take for granted any time we have together because I know that once I start school that it will be harder to see eachother. It's been nice to be able to see him every week or two but even that is difficult. It is so hard saying goodbye. so so hard. It only seems to get worse everytime.
 ( ++++++++ ) December was full of love and I am excited for January. Winter usually brings me down a lot but I am doing all that I can to keep my mind positive and to surround myself with positive people.

Are you a part of one? Would you consider being part of one? Should we all just try to get along?
(And by horrible gift I mean a gift that drives you the parent insane, but that the kid loves. Not where someone buys your kid a jar of mayonnaise and you respond with a shoe box full of ketchup packets.)

Prompted by a probably-made-up post in another community:
You are out shopping with your 10-year-old child. Your child picks up a relatively expensive ($50) bit of frivolous electronics and asks if they can have it. You reply "No, we can't afford that."
As you and your child are leaving the store, child informs you that one of the store employees heard you tell them that the electronics were not affordable, and then purchased them for your child out of their own pocket behind your back.
What do you do?

A woman has a child and meets a man shorly after his birth. He turns out to be abusive both physically and mentally, not only towards her but also towards the child. The child ends up dying and it is shown he was not only beaten to death, but also tortured (cutting fingers, having a dog attack him, fingernails torn off, etc) in the process. This abuse went on for years. It was not caught by CPS through a series of faults.
Should the mother be tried and convicted for murder? Why/why not? What about neglect?
Edited to add: She knew the abuse was going on.
Also edited: I meant physically, not verbally. Sorry.

What do you consider 'tattling'?
Do you want your kids to tell you when one of them is doing something wrong or is that none of their business? Would you be mad if they didn't tell you when one of them is doing something wrong because they didn't want to be a tattle-tale? If you are strict on tattling, do you punish the tattler as well as the wrong-doer? Equal punishments? If you have a chronic tattler, how do you make it stop?

I have gift cards I'd like to try to use for Kohls and Target - are there any "lines" from these places you'd recommend? If there are any better places to get good deals on nice towels, please let me know!!

Should an adult child tell his/her parents about sexual abuse that happened while he/she was still a minor?
Does it matter if:
- the parent/child relationship is not close?
- the sexual abuse happened 20 years prior?
- the sexual abuse was from a close "family friend"?
If the child does tell his/her parents after 20+ years since the abuse, does the parent have any right to go and approach the "family friend"?
EDIT: How would you feel if you were the parent? What would you do if you were the parent?

During a visit to the zoo, a monkey flings poo at your child. Some of it manages to get through the mesh of the cage and actually land on your child.
Do you laugh? Feel rage? Sue the zoo for not creating a better enclosure?

I inherited a heavily embroidered table runner and would like to hang it on the wall. It has loose threads from the embroidery on the back and a very thin border that is free of threads.
It is fairly light and about 2x1 feet. I thought of using thumb tacks but am worried about harming the fabric.
Any ideas on how to display it?

Ok, totally random and ridiculous question but there's too much snow and ice out there for me to go grocery shopping and I started cooking before realizing hubs used all of the Worcestershire. We usually put worchestershire in our veggie soup (tomato juice, ground turkey, mixed veg,potatoes) for the tang but there is none. Can I pour a bit of A-1 steak sauce in the crockpot instead?
